SpanWise on a 49-inch super-ultrawide
A 49-inch 5120×1440 display is not two oversized halves. SpanWise classifies it as superwide and starts with layouts such as 30/40/30, 25/50/25, 20/60/20, 6 × 2 and custom grids.
The 32:9 screen-ratio profile includes both Thirds for three equal windows across one row and 6 × 2 for twelve equal regions. The recommendations are synchronized with the profile once; after that, your additions, removals and order remain yours.
A practical 5 × 2 workspace
Section titled “A practical 5 × 2 workspace”Use the top row for five terminals. Put the sixth terminal, Mail, Chat, Browser and Notes in the bottom row. Mark the central terminal cell as primary so the most recently used window lands there when you press Deal.
You can keep several grids for the same display:
- 5 × 2 terminals for infrastructure or development work.
- 30 / 40 / 30 for a large editor with communication on either side.
- 25 / 50 / 25 for a browser or document in the centre.
- 20 / 60 / 20 for deep focus with narrow monitoring columns.
Drag a divider, split a cell again, or type an exact ratio.
Open Settings → Layouts and create a layout with five column values plus two row values. Drag a horizontal divider directly in one column to change only that column’s top-to-bottom balance, or select the column below the preview and type an exact value such as 35 / 65. Then choose 32:9 on the left and add it to that ratio’s minimize-button menu. Use Top 3 · Bottom 2 when three compact tools should sit above two large work areas.
Picture-by-picture
Section titled “Picture-by-picture”Picture-by-picture pairs appear to macOS as two displays. When SpanWise detects adjacent matching halves, enable Treat matching PBP halves as one canvas in General settings. Palette placements, Deal and layouts can then span the hardware seam.
Dragging a window normally never triggers resizing.
