Choose a division, point at one of its positions, and click to place the window.
  1. Move the pointer to the yellow minimize button of the window you want to place. The window may be in the background.
  2. Pause for the configured delay. The SpanWise palette opens without activating the other app.
  3. Choose Halves, Thirds, 5 × 2, 30 / 40 / 30, or another grid.
  4. Move over the full-screen overlay. The position under the pointer turns blue.
  5. Click. SpanWise moves and resizes that window to the previewed position.

The overlay can also select several neighboring cells. Ordinary dragging remains unchanged and never invokes a snap zone.

Drag a divider, split a cell again, or type an exact ratio.

Five equal columns and two rows create ten addressable positions.
  1. Open Settings and choose the intended display in the left sidebar.
  2. Under Build a new menu layout, name it “5 × 2 terminals”.
  3. Choose five columns and two rows, then click Create.
  4. Click the new card in Minimize-button menu and choose Use selected as default if Deal should use it too.
  5. Right-click cards to put the most useful choices first at the minimize button.

The default layout is the current working grid for that screen ratio. It drives Deal and keyboard movement; the other layouts remain available at the minimize button. Configure menus by screen ratio →

Need different columns above and below? Choose Top 3 · Bottom 2, or click any blue region in the editor and split that region again.

Press ⌃⌥⌘D to Deal every visible, resizable window on the active display. SpanWise fills the primary cell first, then the remaining cells in recent-use order. Extra windows cascade in the last cell. Press the shortcut again within two seconds to rotate the assignment, or ⌃⌥⌘Z to restore the exact previous frames.
